Mirror finish polishing: Afbeelding 1

Using the necessary tools, the surface is sanded down to 2000 grit, after which a reflective effect is obtained with the help of abrasive pastes. Roughness (Ra) values of up to 0.05 μm can be achieved as a result. Note: do not confuse mirror polished stainless steel with chromed steel, which is iron that has undergone a special treatment.

The most common stainless steel sheet is the so-called BA plate (bright annealed), which has a mirror finish and is usually offered as standard when a mirror polished sheet is requested. For an even higher quality polish (and likewise a higher price), there is the so-called ‘super mirror’, a high-gloss stainless steel sheet with near perfect reflective quality.
